It's pretty fun, it does stuff better than Reddit so I'm focusing on that. Personally I'm enjoying that you can scroll through so many parts when searching for a topic
I'm as confused as the next guy, but I'm hanging in there! I'm not sure if the decentralized nature means I'm missing communities because I'm looking in the wrong place, or if there's just fewer stuff around.
I feel the same, but it helps to not just browse "subscribed" but to also check out "local" and especially "all"
You can also take a few minutes and check out the "communities" overview and join those you recognise by name or browse a few of them to decide if you want to join them.
It does not matter on which instance most of the time. Also, I am subscribed to similar communities on different instances, cause why not. Worst case scenario: I get duplicate news.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think that you will see more stuff in All if more people from your instance are subscribed to more communities from other instances.
lemm.ee has most of the communities federated.
Do you mean instances can federate with communities and not just other instances?
When you follow a remote community, it doesn't send all of that servers posts. Only posts from that comm. That way, if I'm hosting a small server and subscribe to !guineapigs@lemmy.world, for example, it won't drown my server with the rest of lemmy.worlds posts.
Does that mean what I see in All is a combination of instances my instances is federated with + the comms that users from my instance are subscribed to? So if my instance is federated with another instance and no one from my instance is subbed to any of the comms from that other instance then no one from my instance will see posts from that instance in All?
Sorry for word salad.
All is all the communties on your instance, and remote instances people on your instance subscribe to.
Thanks for confirming this.
I'm missing some of my topics. Is noone interested in dating, dating advice, self improvement, psychology and this stuff?
Or am I missing something?
People are nice here. I like that. ๐๐
Hi, thx for warm welcome, had a harder moment learning multi-server architecture of Lemmy, now I'm fine. Still did not abandoned the other portal (actively trying to get banned there by being a rebel tho).
How bout You? how's Your day? :)
Glad to hear! Doing well, thanks :) If you want a casual conversation space, there is !casualconversation@lemm.ee :)
I still need to get used to the federated architecture but it's growing on me. I hope we can engage as much as possible so it's more attractive to be active here.
Doing good here.
Thx for these spaces, Lemmy is really enjoyable and Reddit is flushing down so fast!
So far doing really good, also while I know it is some kind of bubble I am in now, I really enjoy not seeing posts from certain subreddits popping up in my feed anymore.
Welcome!
Great experience, Voyager is a great app and Lemmy feels kinda like Reddit in the good old days. Still have to check Reddit threads every now and then through search results while looking for info, though. Hopefully we can get more content going, but I guess thatโs up to us users :)
Welcome!
Not even sure if I saw any posts on buyfromEU. I just saw a picture somewhere with alternatives to various platforms, and it had Lemmy. I had been looking for an alternative to Reddit anyway, so thought I'd give it a shot. My first day here, I got banned from like three Reddit subs and got multiple content takedowns and warnings for up voting Luigi adjacent comments/posts. At that point I was done. Deleted my account yesterday.
I just scroll through the main All feed. Seems like a cool place so far. I'm using the Photon UI because I like how it looks on PC.
Welcome!
Thanks!
Doing great ๐
Doing a bit more mildly optimistic. Lemmy has great potential!
Honestly, I need to get used to all of it, i'm also used to fast paced information and now I see more quality posts but just a lot less of it. I think it might actually be beneficial for my mental health in the long run though!
Welcome!
I got Boost for ~~Reddit~~ Lemmy back. The world is beautiful again!
Now to find communities that I like... I'm a bit lost but I'll settle soon enough.
Love the responsiveness, everything feels so much faster and quicker. Feels like I lost a lot of weight :-D Really like it so far, I just hope that more people make the switch, so that more sub-lemmis? or don't know how to call them, get filled and have more life. Will try to do my part in some sub-lemmis and post stuff be active and so on. :-) Love you all!
They're called communities
Welcome in from the cold. We have hot cocoa and blankets.
Not only Lemmy i also joined Mastodon lol. I find this expirience to be refreshing, maybe thats because this platform has less users or maybe because its not under someones control but i feel as if i moved from big, overpopulated city to a countryside. Its like breathing fresh air, i feel myself free, and i love reading comments here, they look like real conversations between humans. Although im not from European Union but im your neighbor from Ukraine and i totally support this movement or its better to call an idea, i dunno. I replaced a lot of stuff already but thats only the first step. Also im really glad to be here.
