So, itห‹s hard to fully switch to, but it has a growing community and there are some good creators on there (although, mostly Linux/FOSS enthusiasts) - so let me plug !peertube@lemmy.world

Other than that, I still have a lot of gmail adresses, switching them will be a pain, since i will have to go through what I used them for. My main mail is with a German provider, though (posteo.de)

I am in the process of setting up my own suite of fediverse stuff to host, these days. Have been learning a lot by dealing with frustration these past days :D (I only had some basic experience self-hosting, itห‹s been a learning journey)

On PC: Linux, LibreOffice, LibreWolf, BetterBird, Lemmy, Invidious, Le Chat + Ollama (w/ Open WebUI), Proton stack, moved to Helix for development rather than VS Code.

On phone: EMUI (yes, I'm changing my phone soon ๐Ÿ˜‚), F-Droid + Aurora, IronFox, SimpleX + Signal, Loops, Pixelix, Organic Maps and HERE WeGo (for local transport), pipepipe, DeepL.

Planning on getting the upcoming Fairphone 6, if the rumours are right, and it comes out in the summer. I'm also considering the Shiftphone 8.1, but I haven't heard much about it before this year. I previously wanted to get a Pixel and put GrapheneOS on it, but I'd rather not have my money go to Google. Although, I currently rely on Google Wallet to pay without a card, but I might just go back to carrying my wallet with me rather than send more data to Google about my purchases.

wanted to get a Pixel and put GrapheneOS on it.

You can buy an used one instead so that someone else gets the money.

Before I yap, I recommend ASAP to determine your threat modeling and how much convenience you want to sacrifice for your OpSec. Using Google and YouTube and other corporations is valid, and using only Tor & I2P connecting to privacy friendly services is valid too. Use email aliasing, addy & simplelogin are good but duck.com works also. Itโ€™s drastically better for your OpSec (operations security), and in case of a data breach, itโ€™s also best to have that random email alias that forwards to your Proton. I also like Tutamail, no IMAP/SMTP because of the encryption but itโ€™s really nice and the guys behind it are cool. Using ProtonVPN/RiseupVPN for speed is good, but Orbot and Tor is best for your OpSec. Also, donโ€™t forget Odysee! If your favorite YouTubers are on Odysee, which mine are, use it! FreeTube is cool, too.

I HIGHLY recommend privacyguides.org for getting into degoogling and improving your privacy and OpSec, and good luck! :3

Olvid is a niche product, do you speak French? If yes, !forumlibre@jlai.lu , !france@jlai.lu and !technologie@jlai.lu might interest you

[-] 79luca79@lemm.ee 6 points 7 months ago

thx, but no i dont speak French. :) Afaik it the best Euro alternative to whatsapp.

i think French would be the best Candidate as our Lingua Franca. (maybe English or Esperanto also. just not German X_X)

[-] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 7 months ago

I'm actually trying SimpleX right now, seems like a more privacy oriented solution than Signal

[-] 79luca79@lemm.ee 4 points 7 months ago

oh nice, thx. i never read the name on r/BuyFromEU.

[-] ReasonableHat@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

I am on a very similar journey - good luck! WhatsApp is going to be the most difficult to shift I suspect, but I've changed my pic to let people know to contact me on Signal instead so let's see if that helps!

I use lemmy, firefox/cachy browser, droid-ify/aurora, port87, Linux, crdroid(without google services), organic maps

I still use discord(bunny/vencord), youtube(revanced), github and whatsapp

I am also looking for a way to share big files with someone other than google drive

[-] petaqui@lemmings.world 1 points 6 months ago

Check fromsmash (French app)

[-] Burgerlegend@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

I am also on the wagon. I just deleted Reddit to come here.

The only thing i need, is to switch my Outlook mail to something else. Any ideas?

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 months ago

Posteo is a great alternative to Outlook.

LineageOS is a bad idea as far as security is comcerned since it doesn't even support relocking the bootloader which is required for secure boot. Strongly recommend GrapheneOS instead. Sadly only works on Pixel phones but what can you do, they're the only phones whose hardware security features are available for alternative operating systems. Get a used one to avoid supporting Google.

[-] cyberwolfie@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 months ago

You can relock your bootloader with CalyxOS on a Fairphone, a Dutch phone company.

[-] Octagon9561@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 months ago

Still far inferior to Graphene as far as security is concerned.

[-] cyberwolfie@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 months ago

So it solves the one thing you bring up as a security flaw, but still it is "far inferior" without any additional explanation? Talk about moving the goal post. I don't know sufficiently about phone security to know whether that is true or not, but in these weird battles between custom OSes, I often see these claims thrown around by faithful followers without anything to back it up.
