house of leaves intensifies

Danielewski is a nut. (In a good way)

What a unique writer stretching the medium.

Need to read house of leaves.

Also note the path it took vs this scan of the area. It was like 'oh OK I am just going to turn around and go back home'. This Roomba probably didn't want to go to narnia.

Was a poster of Rita Hayworth on that "wall"?

[-] mad_ratzinger@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

NGL thought the image was an arduino board emiting smoke to the side at first glance

Ah the ol' five and a half minute hallway.

I love a good spatial anomaly

[-] fossphi@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

And what's your stance on anomalies of the temporal nature?

[-] double_quack@lemm.ee 18 points 2 years ago

May it be a slightly upward angled mirror?

When I've experienced this, it's usually been because either the robot got stuck (was spinning its wheels but thought it was moving) or got stuck (behind or under something, so it thought it was traveling but just was going in circles).

edit: s/pretty/usually/

Wouldn't the path continue, then? In this pic, it looks like two hard turns and back into the room.

I don't claim to understand the mapping program of any of these robots.

However, for mine, my interpretation is that the map shows what it sees (or thinks it sees) rather than necessarily where it's been. If where it is isn't where it thinks it is and it sees an empty space ahead, it will think it saw a room where there was none.

I couldn't say if that's what's happening here, but it is what has happened to me.

There’s probably a switch (or series of switches) on the wall which activates the door to open up that part of the map.

Should try measuring it from the outside.. just to be sure

[-] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

OP's house is made, of leaves

[-] owsei@programming.dev 9 points 2 years ago

Is this hallway perhaps really cold, dark and makes some growling sounds?

[-] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 6 points 2 years ago

Don’t worry the Foundation will be there to contain the situation.

[-] psmgx@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

It's getting ready to escape

It must have went into the wardrobe. Then went to narnia

[-] Burninator05@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Just like in the third season of Umbrella Academy. Just don't ring the bell.

[-] kubica@fedia.io 2 points 2 years ago

Throw the wall, there must be something there. Or you will make it happen.

[-] BreadOven@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Does it measure longer on the inside than it does on the outside?
