Hey peeps, after hitting the frontpage of reddit, we got a good amount of new users on our instance, to the point where our admin team was struggling to keep up with the application forms.

More users means more issues and therefore more reports, so we are looking to onboard one more admin to the instance. If you are interested, these are the requirements:

Requirements

  • You must be an anarchist, and enthusiastically endorse the instance policies and our anarchist code of conduct. For example this means we also expect you to also be pro-piracy and not hostile to GenAI.
  • You must have been on this instance for at least 3 months, to ensure you understand our culture. Hopefully you've been a lemmy poster as well as we expect our admins to dogfood our service. If you were already a comm admin, even better!
  • At this point we are prioritizing women and/or PoC to reinforce our team's diverse perspectives. So please apply if you are even if you don't feel as confident.
  • At this point we are prioritizing timezones and countries outside of Europe and the USA to help us get better coverage and better perspectives.
  • You must be willing to use matrix as this is where we organize our instance and our real-time admin chat.
  • You must be willing to keep an eye on reports and applications throughout the day.

What is expected of you

  • We have a fairly chill community around this place, so it's not too demanding. The time requirements are not too large and we will keep expanding the team to ensure the load per individual admin remains low. So long as using this instance is your primary social media, the "workload", such as it is, shouldn't even be noticable.
  • Initiative is encouraged. It's cool enough for people to just want to help us keep this place tidy, but if you have ideas, you will be free to put them into action directly without asking permission all the time, so long as we can rollback easily.
  • You should have a anarchist democratic mindframe. We don't need a voting decision on everything (just do direct action), but you should be willing to be judged on your decisions and roll them back if they are unpopular.
  • Remember that while we're anarchist-flavored, we're not just for anarchists. So we understand that many of our users might be liberals or otherwise misguided. On top of that, we make a point of welcoming neurodivergent people who don't always understand social norms and might phrase things in a way that looks really bad when interpreted uncharitably. As such, we want to help people match our values, without turning a misunderstanding into a hostile experience through heavy-handed actions. So a softer hand and charitability is encouraged, while at the same time being firmly against clearly reactionary takes.

Applying

  • You can leave your comments here, which can allow other members of this comm to vouch for you.
  • Please mention your "credentials" and why you think you would make a good member of the team.
  • If you don't feel comfortable with sharing info, you can reach out to me (or another admin you feel more comfortable with) through PMs or matrix.

Spectating

If you're just watching this governance thread, feel free to upvote applications you feel are worthy, and/or comment on people you want to vouch for. If you're a supporter, remember you can also vouch for people directly through a threativore PM.

Thank you for ensuring this place is neurodivergent friendly:)

pro-piracy and not hostile to GenAI.

Anarchism is when you hate art and humanity.

I do not match all of the criteria on your wishlist, but just in case you do need some extra help feel free to consider this application, or not, all good.

Dbzer0 is my now my only social media. I joined Lemmy after the Reddit attack on 3rd party apps. I had been active there for 12 years, and it was really disappointing to see the slow, and then very fast enshitifcation of what had become my online home. Something similar had happened to Digg years before that, and it was clear that the fediverse was the way out of corporate controlled internet hangouts that would all inevitably go down the same enshitty road. Federated systems are quickly becoming more and more important

About me: Canadian, he/him, have a three legged cat pics available on request, work online so generally around all the time, use arch btw.

Thoughts on stuff:

Diversity and inclusion - fierce supporter

LGBTQIA+ - fierce supporter

Fascism - I'm with Woodie Guthrie on this

AI - Do not like corporate / state controlled AI. Can't insult Musk on GPT. Can't insult the state on DeepSeek. That being said, I like using it to help me with coding, rephrasing emails at work to help me stay professional. Looking forward to more open source AI for the people by the people sorta thing. Anarchist AI

Piracy - Its only a matter of time until Spez ejects the piracy subreddit and megathread into space, at which time I think we will see a large influx of peg-legged refugees here on dbzer0. My seed ratio is good

Dbzer0 - Since landing here I have made it my home. I cannot state how much I appreciate this instance and have no doubts that we will be one of the major fediverse hubs in the near future. I genuinely want to help this place grow, either with my shitposts, flippant comments, or doing admin gruntwork if you think I'm a good fit.

Anyway, there you go, all the best and thanks for what you do here

I'm not applying, just dropped in to say I'm loving this aplication form, especially the fact that you are openly focusing on diversity and inclusion!

Also

While I've got you here, I noticed the top comment from the bot here has asd and adhd icons, are those for us too?

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 hours ago

For "you"? You mean for the users? If so, yes! The new registration application asks people if they want to divulge their ND, and if so, assigns these flairs. Why, do you want them as well?

[-] ShareMySims@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, that is what I meant! I'm autistic, and am considering it.. 😁

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 hours ago

Sure, let me know which flair you want

[-] Martineski@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 hours ago

Gimme adhd flair. :3

Could you be clearer as to what "not hostile to GenAI" means? Also is there a post or document that outlines the reasons for this instance being so in favor of AI?

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Could you be clearer as to what "not hostile to GenAI" means?

I don't know if I can make it clearer. This instance hosts GenAI-focused subs and bots, so someone who thinks GenAI as a technology shouldn't exist and its output should be banned from every space, probably isn't a good fit.

Note that this doesn't mean that one cannot criticize GenAI in general, or some shitty uses of it, and especially the corpos behind the recent GenAI hype. I'm explicitly quite against those myself.

Also is there a post or document that outlines the reasons for this instance being so in favor of AI?

No document, but this instance is part of Haidra which grew out of my own GenAI FOSS crowdsourced project the AI Horde, so when I started it, I wanted it to be friendly to my own projects.

[-] Sammy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 5 hours ago

Anarchist to the bone. Love the attitude.

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 hours ago

Thank you for clarifying for me as well. I somehow didn't see this requirement when I applied via my phone.

I'm not against AI, as a whole. I'm against AI in how it's being shoved down our throats, for problems we don't have, for problems that were solved with good indexing.

GenAI images I'll admit...while I wouldn't ban someone for it, I do believe we're entering a dangerous time politically where Gen AI can be used for disinformation. It's getting more difficult to sort out real images from fake. GenAI Images used for fun (e.g. blog post, etc.) I have no problem with.

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

This perspective is all fine. I'm also worried about disinformation and force-feeding us AI slop. Sadly the cat's out of the bag on these areas. (Doesn't mean we have to accept it sitting down of course).

Nevertheless My GenAI projects are all the "just for fun" variety. But I still get haters almost every time I use a GenAI image for my personal blog, or for a lemmy self post.

[-] JiminyCricketz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 hours ago

Thanks for clarifying!

[-] tuxiqae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 hours ago

Was also wondering, also, good luck with the search!

Hey there! πŸ‘‹

I just became a mod of c/piracy so I might be over reaching.

Please read my application to help out in some way since helping financially (at least right now) is not yet feasible due to foreign transaction fees, and not someone who is power hungry πŸ˜…

That said, feel free to decline my application if you all feel I need more experience. I will not take offense.

I am an American born POC male (specifically Asian; I don't want to get more specific than that but will share more in DMs if needed).

I have been an admin on other large platforms (will share over DMs) as well as my own discord server, handling things like content moderation as well as more sensitive issues like user stalking.

My philosophy on modding is that violations that require immediate action should be clear and above board. I love how mod decisions on Lemmy are public! Controversial decisions should be explained in as much detail as possible. I do NOT believe that decisions should be popular. Tough decisions rarely are. But those decisions should be open to criticism as needed so that users feel heard and understood.

Happy to be considered

I like your modding philosophy. Clear and concise.

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 hours ago

ACK. Thanks for applying.

[-] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Lmao, tone probably didnt mean to come off this way but sounded like an antianarchist conservative dad "I do NOT believe that decisions should be popular. Tough decisions rarely are."

[-] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 1 points 6 hours ago

I am not applying but I blv the whole point of lemmy over reddit is decisions are popular? Thats why we ran from the mfs that thought they were above popular opinion

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 6 hours ago

Trust me, when it comes for moderation, there's always going to be dissent. The point is to handle the dissent gracefully

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 hours ago

Exactly. I do believe, however, there should be strong consensus, meaning that even if you disagree with a particular action, you can be supportive of why that decision was made.

Disagreeing with something is not the same thing as not liking something.
