After the original mod being inactive for so long, i've asked the db0 mods for me to take this community. So, welcome back!

Rules

This includes the instance rules of dbzer0, which can be tl;dr'd to: no right wing nutjobs or tankies are allowed. As for the community rules:

  1. Be nice
  2. No bigotry/prejudice
  3. No tankies/right wingers
  4. Don't promote proprietary software
  5. Stay on topic
  6. No crypto
  7. Don't be a smartass and try to game the system, we'll know if you're breaking the rules when we see it!
  8. If you post news exclusive to a country please name it. (This isn't a bannable rule, but just a recommendation :) )

Why not:

Lemmy.ml

.ml is infamous for banning pretty much anyone they please. This community, while left libertarian, will allow conflicting viewpoints.

Lemmy.world

.world is too big, and has centralized a decentralized community. It simply does not fit, and is a net negative for the fediverse as a whole.

I will be creating a wiki/guide for this community later on, but i'm currently busy.

I want to, but I want a steady stream of content before doing so. I myself want to post 3 threads/articles a day but I find myself busy (thanks again for helping, btw) and I may become a mod of C/fallout too, so that'll be 3 communities to manage. Its not hard and its fun but life gets in the way yknow?

[-] Blaze@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

I think we are okay now with the stream of content. Promoting it might even get other people posting here as well!

I think so. Thanks, couldn't have done this without you, blaze! :D ❤️

i will create a post on the two main comms for promotion.

Thank you for the posts! Happy to help

Regarding rule 3, what about things like VPN and email services that have proprietary components?

[-] fxomt@lemm.ee 8 points 5 days ago

Exceptions may be made, such as source available/some proprietary components but promoting completely proprietary software is not allowed

May I suggest a rule of “don’t game the system”.

It helps avoid situations where people think they’re clever but also deliberately skirt the rules.

I.e., people make mistakes, and that’s ok. Willful disregard is another beast.

I will do that, i'll add "Don't be a smartass and try to game the system, we'll know if you're breaking the rules when we see it!"

Thank you for stepping in!

That sounds like one of those internet-only words from people who are socially crippled and live exclusively on the internet and not enough time outside meeting atrangers to socialize

It's a real term dating back to 1956, and it's a bannable offense by instance rules.

The instance's rules are:

  • Nothing positive or promoting cryptocurrency, blockchain or NFTs
  • Nothing extreme-right-wing. This includes conspiracy theories, SovCit, Pro-Police, AnCaps etc. We’ll know it when I see it, don’t test us!
  • No anti-science topics.
  • No Tankie shit.
  • No TERFs.
  • No Porn.
[-] novacomets@lemmy.myserv.one 1 points 5 days ago

It sounds like essentially "Do not post anything that expresses a different opinion." and the "No anti-science topics" sounds like "Do not post documentation that proves our belief is false or wrong."

Just don't bootlick regimes, is it that hard?

And no anti science doesn't mean spiritual stuff and such, it means doing shit like denying vaccines or being a QAnon nut job. There's even a Catholic comm on the instance.

You're complicating this for nobody but yourself.

Wasn't much internet in 1956, but yeah

I hadn't heard it before I joined Lemmy either.

Well now you know
