E: solved I guess? This seems to be an issue across users and instances, so it must be an issue on catbox's end.I hope they sort it out.

Scrolling through the new 196 there are quite a few posts that won't expand when clicking as I would expect them to on my feed, some simply lead to a new tab (annoying, but they still load), but images from catbox, from different users, don't seem to be loading at all, not expanding in-instance, and not loading in a new tab either, the best I can do is open the thumbnail image in a new tab and zoom in at like 500% to try and read it.

I'm on desktop and have tried on a couple different browsers, and cleared cache and cookies and that, but that doesn't help.

Trying to figure out if this is an instance issue, a catbox issue, or a me issue, and is there a way to resolve it?

additionally: Catbox and Quad9 DNS have an ongoing beef with each other, usually things get fixed after a day or so and then start up a month later …

YES!! They wouldn't resolve files.catbox.moe for me! removed them from my forwarders (now just Cloudflare and Wikimedia DOH) and what do you know, all my problems are solved. Fuck Quad9, dodgy DNS.

Good to know thanks, and also that sucks lol but I'm glad they're able to generally sort things out reasonably quickly.

I'll just have to be patient.

I also have varying success with catbox. But that has been going on forever.... Some days it is fine, some it is not...

Huh, well at least it's not just me, or the instance I'm on, I guess. Gotta assume it's an issue on catbox's end then, which is a shame, because I can't really do much about that, and do like it, I just wish it worked consistently..

I cannot see catbox images. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to see a thumbnail and make out what it is. Otherwise there's nothing.

Ah, thanks. I guess it's definitely an issue with their server then, rather than anything on my side. Shame.

I don't even know what catbox is but from the context I'm going to assume it's an image hosters for cat pics

[-] ShareMySims@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 years ago

Just image hosting, not cat specific lol

catbox.moe (though currently not loading)

They are just like Imgur, allowing up to 200MB, which can include videos, gifs, etc.

It’s on and off, in my experience. Right now it’s working, but it used to never load for me. Which is a shame, because a lot of people on Lemmy seem to use it.

[-] ShareMySims@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 years ago

Yeah, same, it wasn't a noticeable issue before, but suddenly I was getting loads of issues. Since I recently moved instances I thought it might be related, but clearly it's on their end and fedi-wide, and you're right, it is a shame not only because so many people use it, but so many people use it because it's a great alternative to the corporate options we generally have now (imgur and such).

I guess as with most things off the main stream, we just have to be a little more patient.

Catbox has always been a problem for me. Sometimes it'll work for a day or two and then not work for another month. I emailed them and they said they're not doing any blocking on their side.

whatever.
