D&D as showrunners. At one hand the material is already written so they won't have to think on their own, at the other what if they go off rails and try to "subvert expectations" once again.
I'll wait until people have watched it to get into it.
That alone is a dealbreaker for me, I don't ever want to see anything helmed by those two idiots ever again. "From Game of Thrones creators" should be a massive red flag.
That's a huge concern for me too. Otherwise great news.
As someone who isn't fond of the source material, I might end up pleasantly surprised if they go off the source material. Though probably not, their track record isn't good.
The material is also a little rough in terms of how easy it would be to adapt into a show I think. It's not like the expanse or something very plot heavy and tight where you can pretty much just turn the novels into a script and it'll go at least decently well. So I'm skeptical because it's going to need a lot of skilled work to make the story function well as a TV show. D&d have not shown that the adaptation part is their strong suit though. Definitely a wait and see for me before watching.
The trailer looked cool. I love the books, looking forward to the show, but having gone through similar expectation/disappointment cycle with Altered Carbon, I'll just say I'm "cautiously hyped"
Thanks, until this moment I had blotted that adaptation out of my brain.
I had a rough time getting through the books—can’t imagine a well-executed adaptation!

Okay, so, I am not thrilled about D&D writing/producing but Rian Johnson is somewhat exciting. Also I really really enjoyed the books. Especially during the last one, I would be a million light-years away daydreaming about them.
Side note: if anyone is interested in this show but is hesitant about the Netflix adaptation, Tencent has a really faithful, really engaging adaptation. It’s available on their streaming app, as well as Amazon Prime and on YouTube (where you can watch all 30 episodes for free.)

Prime does not have them available to me.
Interesting news.
The books were a rich, fertile field of great sci-fi ideas. Curious to see how it translates. Also holding low expectations, as adaptations never quite live up to the books, even when they still deliver a good story.
I'm choosing to be optimistic and excited for this. Loved the books, especially the first one, and I'm very intrigued to see how they'll adapt the source material.
Plus, I'll watch just about anything that Benedict Wong is in, I adore him.
It's been so long since the announcement I had almost forgotten this was coming.
I'm super excited! Hopefully it's approachable enough that my friends can get into it as much as me.
Such a good series. Fingers crossed and looking forward to checking it out!
