What the hell reddit? This is r/piracy, we've had backup plans on other platforms for ages. Of all the subs to forcibly reopen they do the one with the lowest chance of anyone going back? This has to just be a trial to see how forcibly reopening the front page subs is going to go when they do that.
We'll build a better ship with a sturdier ram, 32 pounder cannons and free wenches and rum! Dbzer0 for captain, 2023
Oh thank God, i first thought that the reddit navy entered Lemmy. i don't care about what happens on reddit, in fact, i'e be happy if they'd harm it.
But: can't mods nuke the subreddit history before they're demoded?
Well here I am, screw Reddit. Didn't much like supporting the corporate greed and corruption anyway.
That pinned New Users Guide is a big help. Was a bit confused at first, but I think I get the instance and location thing now. It's actually pretty ingenious. Don't know if any of you are old enough to remember the BBS days when a bunch of them interconnected on FidoNet, reminds me of that. Very cool, like an old idea anew.
This instance (lemmy.dbzer0.com) seems to be in Germany and I'm in the USA so it can get pretty laggy on me. Need to find a USA instance. I tried signing up for lemmy.one and beehaw.org which are USA, but they have a vetting process where I had to fill in some questions and wait for a reply. That's kind of weird. Those are good ones right, non toxic? This one let me sign up instantly so in any case it should do for now, or later if not's too slow for me.
fuck their IPO. Just move here
Reddit is fucked. I have a stash of memes to post when it’s time to brigade.
I like this ship we building here. Lets make it good for sailing again bois.
Reddit proverbially taking their ball and going home lmao
A Mod on the F1 sub was saying that Reddit Admins are threatening any subs that are closed by saying that any mods who are opposed to re-opening subs will be demoted with them being replaced with mods who are willing to co-operate.
The high seas flow in different direction according to time. Tis but a scratch. Lemmy looks promising from first look.
Whatever happens rest assured that we will keep the community alive and well here!
Fuck reddit. Its jjst a platform and guess what, its nlt the only one 😅
Look at them using the community and users as a shield and a bargaining chip.
IMO the option here would be to open the sub, but implement new rules.
Nowhere does it say the sub needs to be on topic. There are many off-topic subs out there (that news sub that's mostly porn, marijuanaenthusiasts).
From now on, only text posts containing a punchline to the joke "why did the chicken cross the road" are allowed.
This is happening all over reddit.
Mods are posting all over the place saying "I have to bend over for the admins because if I don't they'll find someone else who will".
You do you but honestly I find this a bit weird. As an unpaid volunteer you don't have to do anything. Just resign. Reddit's not about to die but it's best days are in the past. I wouldn't want to be a part of the future of reddit.
They are afraid. Gold, just means we need to keep working on making this community better. Stronger.
Glad I made it over here before the ship sank!
First post on Lemmy thanks to this shit! Struggling to understand how a lot of it works still, but absolutely fuck this nonsense from Reddit
Thanks for your sacrifice in the fight
Remaining mods should just do what r/pics has done. Change the subreddit's topic to posting sexy pictures of John Oliver.
The subreddit is open so you complied. Reddit didn't dictate that you keep or change any rules so changing the subreddit rules so that only posts about sexy John Oliver pictures are allowed would have the same effect as the blackout.
Whenever you see inserted words, please imagine an awkwardly moving but very colorful parrot squawking it.
The ability to ~~find and~~ make these ~~connections~~ prrrofits is incredibly important to ~~many people~~ ourrr sharrreholders, and ensuring that active communities are able to remain [a] stable and active ~~(and open)~~ source of prrrofits is very important forrr us!
Our goal here is to work ~~with~~ the existing mod team ~~to find a path forward~~ into exile and make sure your subreddit is usable for the ~~community~~ company which makes its ~~home~~ monnney here.
"In analyzing the availability of the immunity offered by Section 230, courts generally apply a three-prong test. A defendant must satisfy each of the three prongs to gain the benefit of the immunity:
- The defendant must be a "provider or user" of an "interactive computer service".
- The cause of action asserted by the plaintiff must treat the defendant as the "publisher or speaker" of the harmful information at issue.
3. The information must be "provided by another information content provider", i.e., the defendant must not be the "information content provider" of the harmful information at issue."
If Reddit the company is now picking and choosing who approves or blocks harmful information, are they an information content provider now? Are they liable if their chosen mods allow harmful content?
Why not just start allowing direct links to pirated content on the subreddit?
Yup, this is gonna happen to all the big subreddits sooner or later. /videos is next.
Checking in to say fuck Reddit!
Good riddance I say, this seems a lot better than reddit anyways! Thanks for getting this going!
