Voluntary head dunking is a simple trick for maximum cooling. The research describes how positive reinforcement is used to train dogs to dunk their heads in a bucket of water, going after a toy or treat.

Use a treat in a bucket or a toy in a bucket of water, encourage the dog to get it, give them a treat for doing it, and repeat on hot days to help the dog learn to do it to cool themselves off.

ty for saving another click! Never would have thought of that because of the soggy grossness of it..forgoing dog-brain. I had a lab that was terrified of water and would be miserable in summer. She loved treats enough that this may have worked

News and other articles with clickbait bypassed by including the spoiler in the title (put it after a vertical bar "|") or in the post body. Same basic idea as reddit's savedyouaclick, but less uptight for now. E.g. it's fine to link directly to non-paywalled news sources. Mod volunteers wanted.
