If I take a week off of work in America I will lose everything I own and be homeless and die....

[-] Jumi@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago

Isn't that what freedom is all about? The choice of either slaving away or starving?

[-] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 35 points 7 months ago

Tell that to my immune system.

[-] Entropy 32 points 7 months ago

Yes, because there are definitely more options than waste your years trapped in wage slavery. ๐Ÿ™„

[-] FMT99@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Tons. People just generally want to be safe and stable so they gravitate to those kinds of jobs.

[-] shani66@ani.social 2 points 7 months ago

Are you suggesting bank robbery? Because it's a fluke those guys got away with it.

Or did they get caught already? I haven't kept up.

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 29 points 7 months ago

I do? So I can quit my shitty soul crushing job and everything will just be fine then?

[-] FMT99@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Depends what you want. Do you want your income to be stable and predictable and not too low? Then that's your best bet. More interesting usually comes with less stability or possibly less income to start.

I certainly enjoy not being homeless and would like to continue not being homeless. If I can actually buy some things that aren't the absolute cheapest worst possible option as well that would also be good.

To give OP a boon, my friend's mother had a plaque with a saying along the lines of "I was born against my will and I will die against my will. So please let me at least live like I want to."

I think that's a good philosophy to approach your own life and the people you encounter.

I liked the quote until I started to think of the negative parameters of such a saying. It comes down to who is saying it < their intention.

'I was born against my will and I will die against my will. So please let me at least live like I want to.' - Ted Bundy

v.s.

'I was born against my will and I will die against my will. So please let me at least live like I want to.' - Betty White

Well, to come back to your post they chose to live like that to a degree. I guess for themselves it was nice.

[-] dog@suppo.fi 16 points 7 months ago

Sure you do buddy.

Euthanasia is totally legal and not shunned upon everywhere in the world.

[-] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 7 points 7 months ago

Hmm. I don't know about that. Maybe certain very rich people have more freedom regarding the way they can live. I just have to do 9-5, no questions asked.

[-] SomeGuy69@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

And therefore have the right to end it whenever I feel like doing so.

[-] boredsquirrel@slrpnk.net 4 points 7 months ago

I mean there are lots of deadly poisonous plants, but legally killing yourself is hard as fuck.
