I think the most problematic thing about this is that you give very private and intimate information of not just you but also your ex out, most definitely without their consent

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 40 points 1 year ago

And of course that it sounds like it's basically meant to make stalking your ex easier..

[-] neoman4426@fedia.io 65 points 1 year ago

Stalking would be one thing, reads to me like the idea is training a language model on the ex's texts to create an AI partner that acts like them so you can pretend nothing happened, which while probably safer for the other person than being stalked (as long as the training texts are never leaked which is a big if) is just sad

[-] OrnateLuna 35 points 1 year ago

Now way that would negatively impact the person using that app

A more optimistic view might be, that the user could use the tool to help deal with their feelings and questions and lack of closure in a way that doesn't involve the ex or other people.

Once they've had their fill of ranting or stages of grief and reached catharsis, or they've figured out their own feelings and views, the model and all data could be destroyed and no humans would have been harmed in the process.

A suitably smart program might work as a disposable therapist of a sort. But that's probably quite far away from current models.

I would wonder about the usefulness of it for relationships that weren’t primarily conducted via text for the whole duration of the relationship.

Almost all of my relationships have a pattern in texting. There’s usually a month of deep and emotional conversations, followed by a few months of sexually explicit chatting as we spend more time together and work out the emotional conversations in person, and then logistical conversations once we’re emotionally and physically comfortable with each other. And sure, we’re kind and sweet to each other between the logistics, but I don’t know if that’s really enough to train an AI on, or even enough to properly represent ourselves or the relationship.

I think that any AI would have to be very advanced to not respond to “Why did you leave me?” with ‘Because I had to take the dog to the vet/go get milk’ or whatever - especially when the bulk of the texts are in that latter relationship stage.

I can confirm this, I have been backing up and restoring my messages in their entirety to every new phone since my very first Android phone (so about 15 years of messages), so all my relationships have complete texting records and I've seen that almost exact pattern

Sidenote, the Google Messages app seems to handle an almost 6 GB mmssms.db file with grace lmao

What if I uploaded the complete comedy stylings of Rodney Dangerfield in text form?

[-] I_am_10_squirrels@beehaw.org 13 points 1 year ago

Take my ex... Please!

Join Email Waitlist

Be put on a ad targeting/fed honeypot list

[-] XTL@sopuli.xyz 43 points 1 year ago

Read that as "join watch list" first.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Probably that too, since it sounds like it's basically an app for facilitating stalking..

[-] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago

Is there a dating service exclusively for meeting people who are also on a watchlist

[-] Fosheze@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

That would be awesome. Maytch you with someone on all the same watchlists.

[-] TheControlled@lemmy.world 53 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This is spooky, creepy, and I think very, very unhealthy for the person using it. Getting over an ex is hard enough without her fax-copy ghost insisting she loves you.

[-] bane_killgrind@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 year ago

At least this app won't slap me while I'm sitting on the toilet.

[-] watersnipje 9 points 1 year ago

Fax-copy? Are you from the past?

[-] TheControlled@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

No, I'm from the 90s and think I maybe used a fax once? Might have been a dream. I was more implying that it was a shitty copy. I could have used 'facsimile' because that's where 'fax' gets its name, but I wanted to be hip with the kids who only communicate in emojis and dancing 🔥🔥📠🔥🔥

[-] watersnipje 1 points 1 year ago

And hot chip.

... you bring any sports books?

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 48 points 1 year ago

What the fuck‽ That’s the opposite of a mental health app.

[-] summerof69@lemm.ee 29 points 1 year ago

Yeah, people should use proper software to deal with their mental problems. Arch Linux, for instance, comes with a bare minimum, offering the user repositories with fresh packages and AUR to build anything they like.

[-] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 46 points 1 year ago

I like how it assumes the ex being virtual-stalked is a woman. She dumped your crazy ass for a reason.

[-] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 33 points 1 year ago

Don't worry i won't relapse.

relapse

[-] blackouttripleseven 26 points 1 year ago

what the actual non consentual dystopian ass hell is this

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 19 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Nah, I'm cool. I don't need an AI to emotionally abuse me by pretending to be my ex-wife who emotionally abused me.

[-] caesaravgvstvs@feddit.de 15 points 1 year ago

Will it imitate the ghosting?

[-] Trarmp@feddit.nl 13 points 1 year ago

It's the opposite of that one Black Mirror episode lol

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 year ago

I also choose this guy's dead wife.
