They can't. Most can't afford to miss a day of work.
I'm a big proponent of compulsory voting, and Voting Day being a national holiday is a natural consequence of such a system.
We really need to push this along side ranked choice voting (or another third-party friendly system). Also critical thinking skills in all schools.
It's a lovely thought, but I think you know how likely it is to ever become law here in the US.
