But why?

Submit screenshots of all your *NIX desktops, themes, and nifty configurations, or submit anything else that will make ricers happy. Maybe a server running on an Amiga, or a Thinkpad signed by Bjarne Stroustrup? Show the world how pretty your computer can be!
Fyi I checked the r/unixporn and there is no post about a lemmy instance even tho the owner of this community claims this is an official one.
Not that it being official would make things different, there is no need for the specific set of mods that are on reddit to post rices.
Reddit post will be up soon! We're hesitant to promote lemmy.ml given our poor experience with their admins and their odd behavior regarding /c/unixporn, so we figured moderating a different instance would be a good compromise given how federation works. And while you are correct that our specific set of mods aren't necessary for the community to flourish, we are concerned about unixporn being hurt due to many communities being made and remaining completely unmoderated. We're also looking into finding a different mod team for lemmy. Hope this helps!
You mention that the other communities are being left unmoderated. But you were appointed a mod at /c/unixporn at lemmy.ml as well. Is there a reason you didn't want to continue that one?
Hi, I love the fact that r/unixporn is joining Lemmy! :D But I am still puzzled about why not join the already existing community, why start from scratch again when there is already a foundation to build on top of? Maybe I am missing something important, please educate me :)
As Stardust-kyun stated, we're somewhat sceptical of the stability and the administration of the lemmy.ml instance, and moving here seemed like a good choice. I also personally doubt that we'll have much difficulty growing this community to a similar size as the existing lemmy.ml one, as this one will be advertised on reddit. We'd rather go here where we have more confidence in the instance being a good choice now, before telling the subreddit that a lemmy exists now
Cool, but be careful when advertising about a Lemmy community on Reddit. I got banned for just talking about Lemmy in the comment section. :P
Only Reddit mods are canonical, at best other mods are part of the expanded mod universe (EMU). And that's only as long as they aren't reduced to legends status.
