Oh! We already do that in France, we even have a dedicated branch of our military for that called the "Foreign Legion". The training is pretty intense.

Actually, now that you draw the comparison with the French Foreign legion, I'm pretty sure Russia does (did?) as well.
Ah I wasn't aware of that, it may actually be way more common than we thought then.
I remember getting a wild hair to look up militaries that did it, and I think France and Russia were basically the only ones I could find! I know the U$ has offered it in the past too.
