Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

Has someone sent the copyright infringement thing to Janette? She was doing something on plagerism?

[-] Joiyfulgrrrrl@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago

While someone is messaging Jannette can they let her know the plagiarized was used in blogs before the cloud tailor?

I know she’s an investigative journalist working so hard for us. Surely she’s aware but she keeps saying it was stolen from someone but someone else had already shared it ! She would have asked the person she said it’s stolen from , right ? I was googling because I couldn’t find the plagiarism stuff with the subreddit gone and it came right up.

It can’t be private label content, Janette would know for sure how often that it used. Especially in fashion and lifestyle content. It has all the tell tale signs of being that but Janette would know she’s the real deal.

Please tell me this isn’t going to fall apart for us once Janette starts digging deeper!

[-] JanetteEwen@lemmy.ca 36 points 4 months ago

Hi Snarkers, I figured I'd sign up and respond back directly.
Hello Joiyfulgrrrl, we've chatted before. I suspect you aren't overly concerned about things falling apart once I start "digging deeper". I know you are here to discredit me and make fun of me. Perhaps try using various voices when doing this. You always push similar accusations, with the same voice in your writing. It's a dead giveaway. I'll address your comments. The plagiarism. A) In the case of the Cloud Tailor copy used by Sarah for a sponsored by Dyson post-- even if camp papaya pays off the original writer so they claim it's "private label content", I already recorded Sarah's website and my plagiarism search when I originally spotted the copy (2023). I also consulted a plagiarism expert. Soon after the plagiarism was posted on Reddit a Reddit member reached out to Sarah to ask her if she was aware of the plagiarism on the birds papaya corporation website. Sarah was shocked and surprised and was going to handle the plagiarism "head on"... while blaming her staff. I was sent the reciepts for that text conversation. In that text conversation, Sarah acknowledged that YES this is plagiarized content and yes it's on her corporate website. Sarah also blew off a second sample of plagiarism- the Two Year old's b-day party post. Sarah said it was "just ideas she found online". The person texting Sarah left out the word for word copy from that post. I guess Sarah figured she could blow that one off. If Sarah's company had used private label copy why wouldn't have Sarah said that before. It's been what? 14 months? B) There are more samples. I never play all my cards. C) In regards to your other posts and your tone in this one. I'm not an investigative reporter. And? Can't a person try something new? Try to thing of this as my first walk down the runway. My form isn't perfect but I'm doing my best. D) Digging deeper, I'm already dug and done. Anything new the snarkers find and handle. I don't go to war unless I've already won. Common sense. E) If you want to shame me, calling me stupid or using this emoji 🤪 or Jan doesn't do much. You hit a nail when you touched on me being a survivor of child abuse- maybe try to mess with my head there. You seemed to like the response you got on that one. F) don't even bother coming back with OMG I was just trying to help, OMG I'm not that person, omg are you crazy. It's boring and I expect a more worthy opponent. G) tread lightly on this page. People deserve a space to gather. I can be a real bitch when I'm annoyed. Can you imagine if I shared that phone call I received - asking what I want? That's one hell of a red flag 🚩.

Thanks Snarkers I hope you don't minde jumping in for this one. I'll go back to reading.

Janette. This copy was used on a blog called Boss Babe Chronicles in 2020. Link—> https://www.bossbabechroniclesblog.com/10-easy-ways-to-elevate-your-style/

So cloud tailor stole it as well. The narrative you have created that Birdie stole from a WOC entrepreneur is false! You’ve claimed many times that you’re a reporter. You are not the only one that keeps receipts. But ok, you want to claim you are just now trying a “new hat” of reporting? So tip 1 if you’re just starting out in journalism—Dig a bit deeper!

Some of us are making fun of you! You see it comes with the territory of being a public figure with 185000 followers! People have opinions on you girl! And we get to express them too!

[-] JanetteEwen@lemmy.ca 19 points 4 months ago

You seem in a tizzy! I am a reporter. A lifestyle reporter. Would you like to speak to my editors? Have you heard of LinkedIn? Thanks for sending the bossbabe article. Yes there is repetition of copy. I will send it to the plagaisrm expert this week. In my opinion there are portions that are plagiarized. It's not enough of a match to come up in an search. Sar*h's copy matched exactly to Cloud Tailors copy so it came up in a search. BTW. One person plagiarizing doesn't erase another person doing it.

You seem panicky. Are you ok? If it's upsetting to be on this page don't be here. Once I get the plagiarism results I'll post them on Instagram. With a few other samples. My question still holds if S*rah "bought" the article, then why the texts messages that state she agrees it's plagiarism and blames her staff. Will you ask her next time you see her? I'll dig away to try to find the OG article. I'll get to that search in the next two weeks.

I'll also speak to Dyson's agency. I've worked with them over the years. Don't worry I won't mention names. I'll just get their thoughts on ... what did you call them, private label articles-- we used another term at Chatelaine and the Globe and Mail. I checked my most recent contract from Dyson, for me, Dyson and their agency required custom content that hadn't been used previously. No pre-existing rights, intellectual property/ content... blah blah blah.

FYI- we aren't the bad guys. The the list of lies tied to person you are desperately protecting is long. The DM's I am getting with receipts, I can't keep up with. There are that many. As for the filtering. I won't back down on that. I have eyes. Your friend can produce original files if she wants. Those can be read for adjustments. The people here aren't looking to hurt anyone, we want honesty. Also who cares if people filter. No one. But when you preach that you don't. You can shift a whole industry and push people unfairly out. When media starts covering for influencers who lie. And LIE to their viewers and readers, I'm invested. That's a story. You see I care about what's going to be around for the next generation. Totalitarism sucks.

Lastly a question for you, how's your cat? 🐈‍⬛

[-] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

You’re amazing, Janette!

This question is not necessarily for you but anyone reading. Was the infamous Michael Jackson picture for the same Dyson partnership? I’m sure Dyson would like to know that someone they paid to represent them both plagiarized and filtered her image into something unrecognizable. How are people supposed to take that seriously and find her remotely credible?

[-] JanetteEwen@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 months ago

MJ was for Dyson but a separate campaign (hair care). Ironically I handled the CP24 portion of that same campaign. The agency didn't ask for any thing MJ-specific.

[-] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago

Thank you for this information!

[-] Tinaceraldi@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

My cat is great thanks for asking Jan!

How would you know if I’m in a tizzy or panicked though? That’s a manipulation tactic Jan! Acting as if I’m unstable and “crazy”. Back to the old misogynist handbook! Don’t stray from your roots right Jan!

Well since you can’t see it’s copied word for word, I’ll prepare some examples for you! Maybe your expert will be able to see it!

Lmao I don’t know Sarah. AJ, I haven’t hitched my wagon to anyone! This is about Jan! I know it’s more comforting for you to imagine that the only people who dislike you and see through your manipulation are Birdie and her flock. Too bad as a public figure you’ve opened yourself up to criticism! Deflect and dismiss the criticism Jan Jan but it’s not a good look!

[-] Blaze@reddthat.com 9 points 4 months ago

Someone doing ban evasion here.

[-] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 12 points 4 months ago

They stalk us across all social media platforms and have said things that make us think it’s one or two individuals in particular. It’s pretty amusing especially as the person in question is not actually friends with the person/s defending them (they just think they are). It’s kind of sad.

[-] Blaze@reddthat.com 6 points 4 months ago

Sounds sad indeed. Anyway, well done mods from the prompt action!

[-] Tinaceraldi@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago

So don’t ban people. I thought this group and platform was about free speech?

[-] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Why don’t you just use her name? She goes by Janette on her socials and professionally. You seem incredibly immature and petty by that alone.

[-] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

You’re just full of straw man arguments that aren’t going to hold up. I suggest educating yourself before posting since you end up looking foolish.

[-] Tinaceraldi@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

You should teach your friend Jan about straw man arguments!

[-] facialSwelling@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 months ago

Jen Solowwoski's bored.

[-] Spicykitty@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago

I will tell her to check out this post. She knows this community exists but isn't snarking here with us.

[-] JanetteEwen@lemmy.ca 17 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I just answered. This person isn't concerned. They are attempting to undermine the accounts of plagiarsm. I hope you don't mind me jumping on. I figured it's a more efficient way of handling the comment.

[-] Spicykitty@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 months ago

Glad to see you here and of course don't mind! Definitely more efficient way to handle it.

[-] Anniegobel@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago

Oh! Since you’re here Jan Jan, can you tell us when you’ll be posting about the genocide in Palestine?

[-] JanetteEwen@lemmy.ca 15 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I'm happy to send you a full resume of my past and current volunteer work and activism. It's extensive. You can also visit the orange hearts 🧡 on my stories archive. My current focus is on women's health, supporting small business and Tyre Nichols. I'm sure you are following the current trials it seems everything is being done to further hurt his family. My volunteer time for that has been spent on producing short videos, campaigning on behalf of the family, supporting his friends and pushing press releases to the media on the list I was asked to handle. If you would like to chat about the Middle East, the war, the horrific human tragedies let's set up a call. I warn you it may require hours, especially with all the countries and powers at play. I'd love your thoughts on the Wagner Group. This talk can be overwhelming. If you aren't up for it I'll send you the link of a great organization. They support refugees in a hands on way. We are expecting more Palistinian refugees. One small thing I'd like to do is to study art therapy. I feel useless most of the time. What can we do? Perhaps that's one thing I can learn. Help in a tiny way. Below is an image of the stories archive you can find more. The skateboard tab is for Tyre. 🧡

If you are looking to cancel me, maybe say I have stuffed toys?? Or something like that. If you want to shut me up. That might be harder.

[-] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 14 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

You don’t need to answer to that poster. Some people hitch their star to the wrong wagon and don’t know when to let go. Perhaps they would like to tell us why there’s been a bot buying soree going on the last few days. It’s not a good look to boast about having more than 2.3 M followers when so many are ‘bot and paid for’ I’ve noticed they’re going top tier now and getting the ones that engage.

[-] Tinaceraldi@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

You should ask Jan about bot and bought followers. She doesn’t seem popular or interesting enough for 185000 followers. Ask her about Tina and Anne Marie. And all the other fake accounts following her. Then maybe you 2 can film people at the mall together! It’s totally legal and not creepy and gross at all!

[-] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Janette really is that popular because she actually uplifts and supports women unlike your precious birdie. Also, I sincerely doubt you care about Palestine because people like you only bring it up as a tactic to shut others down, typically in completely unrelated arguments. Why don’t you bring your concerns to birdie, who (allegedly) has a much larger platform and reach than Janette? All she’s ever done is put a link in her profile that Shine undoubtedly told her to, much too late and only when others started talking about it. Perhaps most importantly, instead of participating in the BDS movement birdie also continues to grift and encourage others to purchase from large retailers who are indirectly responsible for many of the injustices in this world, like Amazon, Starbucks and Disney +. I suggest you stop embarrassing yourself.

[-] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Oh, and let’s not forget Apple, which pushes people to buy new products every year with zero thought to people experiencing genocide in Congo. Not that birdie’s a good spokesperson for Apple as she filters her photos to oblivion and claims “that’s how our phones received it”. 👀

[-] olivesandpoppies@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago

Yes! This.is.what.I’m.here.for. 👍 Keep calling out influencers for careless overconsumption of tech products that depend on slave labour, fast fashion which is also slave labour, being complicit in genocide, gentrifying areas with people struggling to sell properties, taking spotlights from minorities, and not respecting ppl under eighteen’s right to privacy online. Ultimately, and eventually, if people do this (calling out influencers and celebrities) , more every day people will also refuse to be a part of this type of lifestyle. Stop fast fashion, buy LOCAL (if you’re rich especially), don’t get a new phone every frigging year, stop travelling all the time, and speak up regularly about atrocities. If she knows that she’s getting millions of views, even if let’s say a third of them aren’t active accounts, then she does have the power to at least get a couple thousand to pay attention to some pretty important issues. And we could call it performative or late or whatever when these influencers eventually do say something, but ultimately they might make some changes happen with their popularity. Because let’s face it it’s a popularity contest, and whether she thinks so or not she does have a “traditionally, beautiful face” and charm which can definitely convince people to also step up.

[-] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Love your comments as well! Influencers are so out of touch and need to get on board or be left behind. The world is changing and this kind of behaviour is becoming less and less acceptable. The irony is I started following Sarah years ago because I thought she cared about sustainability and leaving a good impact. Not so much. Now I question if she ever was or if she only said that because it was popular (I think the latter).

[-] Tinaceraldi@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

That’s nice. You still didn’t answer the question! Will you openly condemn the genocide in Palestine and post helpful links on your insta?

It’s a manipulation tactic to answer simple questions with a long-winded reply that evades the actual question Jan!

No one wants to cancel you Jan. But some people don’t care for you. It’s ok, we’re still allowed to voice our dislike in Canada! Freedom of speech and all that jazz

[-] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago

Jan Jan? Did you just leave the playground? I think it’s time you gave up and let the grown ups handle things

[-] JanetteEwen@lemmy.ca 17 points 4 months ago

This is the same person that was Jen S. It's a group of maybe 2-3 people who are on the Mccarvell page. I'll not respond again. :) thank you.

[-] Tinaceraldi@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

Lmao the grownups can’t even do a simple google search to find out if their plagiarism theories are correct! Yes Jan it did come up in a Google search! That’s how I found it girl! I’m not investigative reporter

[-] Tinaceraldi@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

I know you said you won’t be back Jan, but I have so many questions! Why did you or your friends “Tina” and “Anne Marie” write a fake threat to you on Reddit? Why did the mods there cover it up? Are all the “threats” against you made up for attention?
