Uniforms are idiotic and just a violation of the rights to express yourself. As a normal human im 100% against that BS because there is no reason at all.

I mean... that's not a right. Are you very young perhaps? It can seem difficult as a kid to deal with but as an adult it's easier to see the benefits. There's a lot of studies on the improvements made by lessening the differences between the kids.

I'm several years out of the education system and fuck that noise. I'd be interested to see your studies, as a kid I faced mild bullying and always wore cheap clothes but there was never a causal link.

To me this uniform craze is 20 % well-intentioned-but-mostly-useless and 80 % old reactionaries trying to gain a sense of control over the youth (and society in general) which is just another symptom of the societal illness that is bringing back fascism (not that uniforms are inherently fascist... but fascists LOVE uniforms).

No, its literally a constitutional right in Germany. And also the history with uniforms is very fucked up here...

And no, your "benefits" are by far overshadowed by the downsides, wich is it being a violation of our constitution.

[-] Devi@kbin.social 1 points 9 months ago

There are definitely school uniforms in Germany.

[-] NoLifeKing@ani.social 4 points 9 months ago

There are no public schools (wich are the 99,99%) that have them. Private schools are something different because the parents/child can just not go there. So yes there might be a private school with uniforms, but no they aren't a good idea and aren't constitutional in 99,99%

You could do a dress code however. Some schools have that to a certain extent.

So it's against your constitution but also done in many places? That makes no sense at all. It doesn't appear to be against the constitution at all. Can you point out where it bans school uniforms? Or indeed uniforms in general which are pretty common.

Did you smoke crack man?

[-] ChairmanMeow@programming.dev 5 points 8 months ago

It's not constitutional for the state, but that doesn't say anything about what private institutions can do.

[-] Sodis@feddit.de 5 points 8 months ago

Can you link these studies? I would be interested.

https://www.trutexbtru2u.co.uk/research-shows-wearing-school-uniform-helps-reduce-bullying/

This is a recent British study focussing on bullying. Teachers, parents and children themselves see the differences.

https://eric.ed.gov/?id=EJ1255002

This is an American study that focusses on the students and parents and reaches similar conclusions.

[-] Sodis@feddit.de 1 points 8 months ago

Both studies focus on the perception of the issue, not on hard numbers on bullying. What I was looking for are, if cases of bullying drop when school uniforms are introduced.

[-] Devi@kbin.social 1 points 8 months ago

I mean, can you get hard numbers on bullying? It's not a black and white situation. If someone feels that they're being bullied then they are. The American study shows that pupils feel that there's less bullying. If you want to design your own study then you can, but I'm not sure how.

[-] Sodis@feddit.de 1 points 8 months ago

But that's not, what they were asked. They were asked about their perception of bullying, so also bullying of others, not only of themselves. I agree, that it would be much better evidence, if they would have just asked if the students get bullied.
My problem with the perception thing is that everyone tells you, that school uniforms help against bullying and then you get school uniforms. So now you might feel, that there's less bullying, because you have this foregone conclusion, that it must work.
