Hey everyone, Friday round-ups have been a while so I guess we can make this a full January round-up ^^
Anything fannish or fannish-adjacent you want to share about January? A cool project you started? Progress you're proud of? Something you're happy to have finished? A new discovery maybe?
Do you have plans for this weekend? (Or beyond?)

As for me... January was overall a slow month for fannish stuff but during the last days of December a friend over on Mastodon started posting daily, one-word prompts for small fancreations: microfics, doodles, and other things you can do in little time (you can find the prompts and fills with #FanPrompt if you have an account on something federating with Mastodon). And... I've done them all! Every single day! I never wrote microfiction before and I didn't expect to have so much fun with it, so that's a neat discovery ^^
Plans: aside from continuing with the microfics prompts, I have a more standard fic I should finish in the coming days, and I decided to try to challenge myself to write at least one sentence (outside of the microfics) per day. Even if that sentence ends up being one word. I want to see if the forced regularity is better for me than forced productivity (X words in a month). Suspense ^^
Things easy get quiet when kbin is still struggling in showing when magazines update, let alone comments. Thank you everyone who keeps posting to push through!
I've... also not been good. Lots of panic attacks, sobbing, etc. Real life issues aside, I finally had my breakthrough with the comic I thought I was going to be posting last year but couldn't. If I don't fumble it should start posting next week (9 pages queued 4 more to ink).
It will be nice to get one more story on my anthology out before I reach its 5th birthday. Trying not to be mad that I haven't managed to finish the 2nd book of my Anthology before the 5th birthday. But also. Need to remind me to forgive myself? When your therapist is also saying, "holy fuck that's a lot on your plate" it helps reinforce to me that I'm actually doing really well considering what is always looming.
I have posted another "first" fanfic. Unless someone corrects me I am now the only person to have posted a Squirrel Stapler fanfic. Once again I expected it to be 1-2 hits at most due to curious friends but got a comment from someone who read it blind!
I keep wanting to get into a challenge thing and participate with others but it need to be the right thing given how drained I am. Will look into the fanprompts on Mastodon, thank you~
When it comes to "write this much in this time limit" it helps a lot if you just punch perfection in the face. Allow yourself to write [cool/sad fight scene here], [she said the exact right thing that inspired them to be less stupid], etc, move on and don’t look back to edit until months later. Best wishes on your challenge!
Urg, this end of 2023/beginning of 2024 really was harsh to everyone, uh? I hope life gets better for you!
It's super impressive that you still managed to create! Congrats on the breakthrough for the comic, and congrats on pioneering fandoms! I never wrote a first for a fandom but I regularly write the first fic for a relationship tag and there's a nice feeling to it for me? Something like "maybe this will inspire others, and I like when creativity spreads"? So I imagine that opening a fandom must feel exciting!
I hope you can find the right challenge for you! Given what you're saying, the fanprompts could fit, but if they don't I'll keep an eye out for low energy challenges!
I'm a NaNoWriMo veteran, I've punched perfection and sanity in the face x') (Seriously, finding my lamp hilarious because of how much I had written in one sitting was an experience I will never forget xD) Thank you for the encouragements, it's appreciated ♥
These past handful of years have been miserable that at the end of 2023 I was begging for a literal "happy" new year lol.
I'm a chronic doodler. I compulsively create (even on legal papers whoops) unless I'm deeply sick. However if anyone sees what I make is another story.
I never intend to be a first for a fandom! A dread of getting into something that is very indie and knowing, "uh fuck I'm the only one at this party" But yes! To inspire others! I've gotten a couple of comments like that for my Dino Run fics! I have no idea those who said they would write when they will be able to post anything,.. There is a hope!
Heck, now there is another Sakuna: Rice and Ruin fanfic that isn't mine! But it's a crossover and none of the Sakuna characters are in it lol. But hey, no longer alone!
Oh goodness a NNWM vet! Well then excuse me! Then I hope as the intense practice continues, the habit will become smoother to do~
