It blows my mind how reddit is so mainstream now, when it was such a niche corner of the web when I joined it.

This is so true. And another thing - it really does appear to be that once something goes "mainstream" in the internet-era, it loses some of its charm that made it a special place to begin with.
Agreed. This was initially really daunting - figuring out how to get Lemmy going, but I am really liking it now!
Like you said, it's not going to be competing with the same number of users, but that's probably a good thing?
