You would enjoy The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce I think. One definition that has stuck with me - Pianoforte: a parlour instrument of torture. It is operated by depressing the keys of the machine and the spirits of the audience.
Found it on the Gutenberg Project. Gotta love free old shit!! :)
Check out 'clarinet' while you're there ... I get the impression that Mr Bierce was not fond of music.
Or maybe not fond of music being played poorly...either way, he's not wrong.
