The dwarf carving is very similar to dwarves in the game "Troika!" that are sculpted by other dwarves. Dwarf culture highly values artistic talent and unique style, so the creation of a dwarf is very very personal and important. There's even a kind of subrace of dwarf that is "derivative" or incomplete, and is therefore so completely ostracized by Dwarven society that they're almost invisible to other dwarves
