Or a heat pump dishwasher? If he finds a way to turn a heat pump into lighting he's got it made.

There are heat pump dryers. They plug into 120v and can often work without a drain if your willing to empty them manually afterwards.

Honestly, a heat pump dishwasher is probally fully possible but not necessary, as they only use like 5 gallons of hot water.

Stirling engines have powered generators. No reason you couldn't run a light on one. However it would be impractical for any real world house use for a long list of reasons in not about to type up.

that would probably be more up hyperspace pirate's ally because it would almost certainly require a few thousand degrees on the hot side
