This is one of the most depressing aspects of life. All of these services we pay no longer care at all about us - we have no options. They give us AI support only, poorly functioning apps where you can't even find how to complain or make a ticket.
I don't know how it gets fixed. Soon we will all work for them.
Stop using them.
I never understood how they are so popular. You are paying double the amount and it's poor service and food tastes worse
The fact that you have a stranger go and pick up your food is what makes it unthinkable to me. (Although if disabled or injured then I understand)
I'm not one to defend DD here, I stopped using them years ago. But strangers are preparing your food too. The driver is just one additional set of hands in the supply chain that brought food to your home.
DD still sucks, for the record.
This is true but those people are at least on camera and surrounded by other people holding them accountable.
Don't get me wrong I've seen some wild wild shit before at restaurants so of course they can still do messed up stuff to the food but having some guy pick it up and ride off with no accountability is super sketchy to me
That's what makes DD special, though. They absolutely could hold drivers accountable and all that. Other delivery services in the past used to be much more reliable and provided better experiences. Uber Eats is, to a minor extent, a moderately better platform to work with. I still don't trust them with my business though.
So it's not delivery services per se.
DD though, is absolutely trash by their own accord.
Because I’m already high and forgot I don’t have any food in the house.
Go hungry? Phone a friend? Ask the neighbor?
Not give a tech bro $50 to deliver a depression by exploiting your community.
What the fuck do you think we've done for checks notes the last 100,000 years.
"No! I want to complain AND be lazy!"
Well for most of that history people lived in walkable settlements and cities. Pompeii had fast food stalls. And more recently (relatively) food ordering direct through a restaurant was the norm. Pizza delivery dates back to the 19th century, which is checks notes more than 100 years ago. So yeah, access to food has changed a lot and it is nor unreasonable to expect your delivery driver not to toss your food into the street.
I share your perspective and reading these comments made me realize we have different paths of lease resistance.
For some who have gotten used to them, it’s easier to put up with the enshitification than not using them, for others, the path of least resistance is to not use them in the first place.
I was getting g a burger the other day (something I’m loathe to do but it was circumstances…) and as I’m waiting several dasher came in and grabbed orders waiting. I’m a people watcher so I sit where I can watch people come and go while I wait for my order and can still hear my name. Now, it was storming outside, I mean it was nuts. One of those dashers came in grabbed the bag of food and used it as a rain block to get back to their car. Just held it over their head like it was making any difference at all. Whoever got those soggy fries I hope they don’t go through the hassle again.
This is the correct answer. Those companies that don’t fix their shit will perish.
After they empty your pockets. All part of the grift.
After they empty whose pockets?
Door dash is a shit service, all it takes is one person to put them on blast with the truth.
If that were true they would've shut down long ago. Do you really think no one has tried to "put them on blast"?
https://xkcd.com/325
He's trying to imply dash wins either way that they keep the money
I have never ordered a god damn thing from Uber or Dash after heading how shit it was from others.
But hey, you know what they say about a fool and his money
Correct. They win while riping us off.
Doordash. Ive never used it and will never, but I've seen the bills. It's crazy expensive, don't need to be a mathematician to see that nonsense.
for real! don't like something, don't use it.
isn't that the main reason we are all here talking on the fediverse, anyway?
Standing in my kitchen while saying this
It gets fixed by no longer using them. Money is all a corporation understands.
If they make more $ cutting support costs and pissing off some customers than to have support staff and higher costs and more customers, then they will do it.
Infinite growth, my friend. All that matters to most if them.
At least where I live, there are alternative delivery platforms, and there are also plenty of restaurants doing their own delivery. The competition means that customers generally get decent service in my experience, although support usually goes through the restaurants. I feel like the ones getting fucked over by these delivery platforms are the delivery drivers and restaurants, not the customers.
There is no alternative to whatever this Dash is?
There is, don't order food to be delivered to your house. Going from every pizza shop, and local fast food joint, having people who would drive the food to anywhere within a few miles, with just the idea you would likely tip them if you got your food on time, to having to pay anywhere from 1/4-2x the cost of your order to have it delivered, by a third party, that is a huge faceless corporation, with poor service, is really disheartening.
My local city council gave Doordash a 5 year exclusivity contract in good delivery in our market, which led slowly to all of the local pizza places and Asian food places getting rid of their delivery drivers, so even if I want a local pizza delivered from a local pizza place, I still have to use Doordash.
This would mean that pizza is worth more to you than your principles about the matter.
Actually, given that most pizza joints will happily sell you a pizza for take-out, it just means their laziness of not wanting to go get their own pizza means more than their principles on the matter.
All of you in my replies really seem to not understand how many housebound disabled alone people there are out there
So there are only services for take-out, but non for groceries?
The same services usually do both, so why are we judging the people getting a pizza but not the one getting some groceries?
Is that a serious question? I don't know whether to laugh or cry...
So if a disabled person gets pizza they're a lazy entitled piece of shit?
Yes that is exactly what I'm saying. And you're not even twisting my words or anything. Good job, goodbye.
TIL that america is SO shit, that take-out junk is the only thing disabled people can get to eat...
Now you are beginning to understand how the U.S. isn't even country, it's just one giant corporate cartel and the people living here are only useful as fiscal assets. Yes.
Okay, so we've established that anyone wanting to get something to eat that they haven't cooked from scratch at home is a lazy piece of shit.
Why not ban the restaurant industry altogether then?
And that in-person pickup, by the user or their friend or someone else they paid, is for some reason or another completely out of the question.
I literally don't ever order delivery so these sort of can't-do-nothing takes around Doordash are completely foreign to me, but that is just me.
Well, you can see from my comments that it's not just you... But there are few of us left.
So many times the restaurants stop hiring delivery people and use the apps instead.
I'd bet that even if they don't accept costumers coming to them, there would be a grocery store within the same distance.
I haven't ordered food delivery for over two years now.
What if I have some other job like plumber or fireman?
They can (like everyone) afford way more groceries than take-out.
We got by before these shitty companies existed. I'm sure we can survive not using them.
I do use them on occasion but prefer to order something local and pick it up myself. No markup and some places even give a discount on pick up orders.
