Bae In-gyu, the South Korean far-right YouTuber and head of the anti-feminist group New Men's Solidarity, has been found dead after reportedly falling from his home in Yeongjongdo, Jung-gu, Incheon. He was 36.

The controversial online figure had remained at the centre of political and social disputes in South Korea for years, including his anti-feminist activism, support for former President Yoon Suk Yeol and several legal controversies. News of his death quickly prompted harsh reactions online, with some users openly mocking his death rather than expressing sympathy.

Bae was best known as the leader of New Men's Solidarity, an organisation established around an anti-feminist message and men's rights activism. Academic research has examined the group as part of South Korea's contemporary anti-feminist movement, particularly its use of digital platforms to mobilise supporters.

His activism later became closely linked with South Korean conservative politics. Following the emergency martial law crisis in December 2024, Bae participated in rallies opposing the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol.

In January 2025, he was linked to the riot at the Seoul Western District Court. Months later, police investigated Bae over the incident and searched locations linked to suspects.

In South Korea, gender inequality is increasing with high rates of physical and digital crimes against women, largely driven by young, educated men blaming women and feminism for societal issues. Despite recent advancements in women's reproductive rights, legal protections remain inadequate, highlighting the urgent need for the state to rectify the voids in current laws to protect women's rights and punish perpetrators.

During the 2022 South Korean presidential race, conservative candidate Yoon Suk-yeol denied that structural inequality between men and women exists and threatened to abolish the Ministry of Family and Gender Equality. He narrowly won the presidency in March 2022 by catering to young men, who overwhelmingly believe that discrimination against men in South Korea is severe.

Yet Korea ranks low in global indexes of gender equality, such as the World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report. Incidents of violence against women, including domestic assault, workplace sexual harassment, rape and murder have become alarmingly frequent. In a 2015 study by the South Korean government, 80 per cent of respondents — the vast majority of whom were women — reported they had been sexually harassed in their workplace. Human Rights Watch reported that nearly 80 per cent of male respondents admitted to violent acts against an intimate partner in a 2017 survey.
