Quite honestly, I doubt that has any bearing on it. Realistically speaking, it wasn't that much better during the cold war, and that generation had kids. And climate change is not something most people plan their groceries around, let alone their future family.

the thing that was better back then was the future. things were getting better. meanwhile now, for many people, the future looks worse.
