Now next time you read a breathless article about "China is flying aircraft through Taiwan's air defense zone!", you'll know that the zone just so happens to extend over mainland China, which these outlets never mention for some reason.

This is very embarassing, even by liberal standards
What a flaccid gotcha. Might as well have written "no u". The DPRK isn't dependent on China on such a level that if they were to collapse (which, lmao, sure) they'd go with them. You cannot say the same of the RoK, which is still deeply intertwined with the US military industrial complex as well as Wall Street, and derives a lot of its political legitimacy not from popular support (given how many of their former presidents are jailed) but their proximity to the military power still occupying them with so many military bases.
