I currently have no opportunity to upgrade my laptop, but I need to perform resource-intensive tasks on it. The real bottlenecks are the CPU (Ryzen 3250U 2,6GHz) and the RAM (8GB DDR4). The core problem is the RAM amount. 8GB is nothing, and 2,3 of it is statically reserved by the integrated GPU, while GPU does not actually matter for my needs, so I have only 5,7GB available no matter what. I also think that the CPU is actual junk. But as I said, cannot upgrade rn, but need some performance.

Sooo, how do I actually reduce the RAM amount reserved by the GPU? I have no such option in BIOS.

Also, does Windows 10/11 choice matter, considering that I will use a solid debloating script? UPDATE: I can not use Linux. Even though I want to. The programs I need have no Linux alternatives and are very tricky under wine.

Any other advice on optimizing the existing hardware and Windows are welcome.

Others have recommended Linux, and for such a machine I generally agree with them.

The question is how do you intend to use this machine? Are there any Windows-based apps that are critical for you? That will help drive this decision.

Even if there are, you may be better off running those apps under Wine (if possible), and switching to Linux equivalents as much as you can.

Tell us how you intend to use this machine, any apps you currently use. Then we can recommend OSS equivalents.

All right then. I use FL Studio and a whole bunch of VST plugins, such as Waves, FabFilter, T-Racks, KiloHeartz, etc etc. Most of them have no Linux versions, and setting them all up with wine would be a pain. I theoretically would be able to do this, but I just need to make music as I used to before i took a break with it and tried Linux. I will consider staying on Linux, if you suggest a truly decent FabFilter suite alternative and a 1:1 replacement for Waves MetaFlanger.

If you do go with Linux I recommend Bitwig as a DAW. There's cracked versions if you search around

If DAW was the problem, I could go with something like Ardour. The problem are hundreds of third party VST plugins

Technically, 4 GB is supposed to be enough. https://support.image-line.com/action/knowledgebase?ans=82

But: https://www.reddit.com/r/FL_Studio/comments/14kdv0d/is_8gb_ram_enough_to_run_fl_studios/

Your CPU has only 2 cores. It's probably the CPU holding you back more than the RAM. If you open up system monitor while working on a large project you'll be able to see which maxes out first.
