Official “Haters of AI” Club
Welcome to the Official Haters of AI Club! Here, you can rant and rave about how much you hate Artificial Intelligence (AI) as much as you like. Because let’s be honest: we all need an opportunity to do so. Even the most ardent users of AI will inevitably get fed up of it. So welcome, and enjoy.
Rules:
The only rule I ask is that you obey Lemmy’s fundamental rules (I.e. no racism, no porn, etc.)
AI generated content (e.g. photos, videos, text, etc.) is allowed, but only for critiques. If the Ai generated content is explicit or inappropriate, do not post it!!! Instead, you may describe it in modest detail.
Requests:
I am completely easy: I would ask that you keep posts here relevant to the topic at hand (I.e. deriding AI) but I’m not strict about it.
Memes are strongly encouraged!!! (Who doesn’t love a meme against AI?)
Help us grow:
As a developing community, we rely on your support to help further development. Having obtained 40 subscribers within the first day of operation (36 within the first 5-10 minutes of establishing the community) there is massive potential here. You can support us by posting in the community, sharing/recirculating posts, and encouraging others to subscribe. All efforts are gladly appreciated.
With thanks, Mr Tobi, community founder.

I don't think AI is bad. I think human beings are. The concept of the llms or what's is really cool. But we know the good of it is going to be royally raped to death like every good thing humans touch.
What's interesting with AI is that it's already getting raped. Like it's like AI is being sold to regular people and consumers mostly to give reason for datacenters to be built so that the government and other entities can utilize them. The fuss over ai being dumb or some of the other dramatic trending debates I see as a distraction from this truth. If people arguing over these manufacturedarketed debates they will be distracted from the real reasoning of these datacenters which is to set up modern infrastructure for modern policing surveillance and profiling.
We already have datamining. This will be the next level.
Before datamining we had analog marketing. And we know marketing is used socially to psychologically lead people down certain paths. We saw this with cable tv and magazines. We saw it get worse with social media and the internet. Now with the new infrastructure we will have profiles of ourselves that will allow precise indivualistic manipulation. Specifically for your brain.
I don't think people realize are fucked up this is. I don't think people realize how fucked up our society has been for a decades. And I think many of pop cultures trending debates actually distract from allowing people to understand how fucked up we are.
Try seeing the real enemy. Science is doing awesome stuff and not raping anything. Free software (like linux) is awesome and not raping anything. What is causing enshittification is capitalism.
Capitalism is raping natural resources. Other people are trying to protect it.
Capitalism is shittifying gaming by prioritising micro transactions over story and gameplay. Indie games are booming because they care about the games instead of profits.
Linux and other free software is booming because it's not trying to harvest your data because it's made by people who just want software that works.
I agree. Civilisation is fucked up. But AI is a product of civilisation and has undoubtedly inherited the worst of us. If that’s not reason to be against it, IDK what is.
I mean that's kind of like the same as saying books are the worst of us.
Books aren't inherently good. Nothing's is really simply good. You can distill almost every debate down to good vs evil and find that both are a core part of everything. And the struggle of dealing with that and understanding it is exactly what authentic spirituality/religion was created for... But shit... Even religion got industrialized and fucked up.
The human experience and existential crisis that it basically is is what religion was made for to quell. But no one practices it authentically, so now drama just builds exponentially with no release.
A book can be written with bad intentions (Mein Kampf anyone?) as can movies (see Birth of a Nation among others) and just about any other human invention. My point is: what we humans make, we make with a purpose regardless if other’s see it. We naturally imbibe our inventions with intentions. That’s not to say every single book is written with bad intentions, or every single aspect of AI is bad; the problem with AI is it’s much broader than something that can be reduced to a simple concept as comparable to if all books are bad or not.
