tbh, "deflowered" sounds grosser to me than "rape", in this context. It's like spraying perfume at a cess pool: highlighting the ick by pretending to disguise it.
In other words, the term "rape" feels clinical and accurate to me. "Deflowered" feels emotional and super gross to me. Neither downplays it for me.
YMMV because emotions and feelings are like they are and your feelings are are as valid as mine.
I got raped at about that age.
Using the term "deflowered" to describe what happened to me makes me feel like you were part of it.
If that's the message you want to send, I guess that's your call, but you're not gonna make a lot of friends doing it.
I didn't use the term "deflowered", I explained how it made me feel when someone else used it. I said it's a gross term and makes me feel gross to hear, which feels like the appropriate reaction to hearing about raped children.
It sucks that you were raped and I'll take your experience into consideration when I emotionally evaluate the word "deflowered" when I encounter it used to describe experiences similar to your experience.
It reduces the person who got raped to a body part.
The body part that the rapist wanted access to.
If you can't understand why that's hurtful maybe take a step back.
You’re right. The word is vile and I shouldn’t have made it sound like a matter of personal taste. It's not "gross", it's dehumanizing. I’m sorry.
