What horrible 19th century plague do you think the subject of this painting was dying of?
Unfortunately, Wikipedia (French) doesn't provide any information regarding the illness the (already 2 hours dead) woman had been suffering of. If she didn't die from a 17th century disease, it could also be a post partum death.
