If the Oppenheimer movie is to be believed it was a race between us and the nazis.
Movies almost never are credible sources about any subject. But even taking that aside, its a movie produced by the same country that made the bomb. As someone else said, not only burguerlanders will kill you in a war, they will come back 20 years later to tell you how that made their soldiers sad
