Not-so-fun fact, if a rabbit has a litter but their den gets discovered before the babies can look after themselves, the mother will eat their young and go have more somewhere else.
So, yeah, accurate.
Several animals do this. In nature, the mothers are more valuable than the babies.

It makes sense from a survival standpoint, but it's still grotesque. I learned that fact when I stumbled upon a den in my backyard. The mom bolted and left the babies there. I kept an eye on it, hoping the mom would come back, but when I checked again the next day they were all gone. I checked to see if the babies grow up fast enough to actually leave that quickly, and this is what I learned.
I grew up on a farm and we had rabbits. From what I’ve seen, there is some evidence when this happens.
Maybe a predator or their mother carried them off
