Don’t know the guy. Someone could fill me in on why he was sacked?

Because the top general was butthurt because incompetence in the military was called out. And he didn't want to change things to improve it.
Zelenskyy thought they were causing too much trouble, and chose to fire the by far most qualified, over a run of the mill traditional soviet era general.
No single person in Ukraine has done so much to turn the tide in the war against Russia. Fedorov is a genius, and is the brains behind shutting off Starlink to the Russians. And the extremely successful drone strategies Ukraine have been using for the past 6 moths.

Here is a list of 22 accomplishments he has achieved as minister of defense:

Per this BBC article:

Initial rumours that the end of Fedorov's tenure was related to tensions between him and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi were all but confirmed by Fedorov himself and Zelensky.

On Thursday, Fedorov revealed he had suggested to Zelensky that Syrskyi and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov should be replaced.

Zelensky, speaking at a press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, acknowledged that the conflict between the General Staff and the defence ministry had been "systemic" and occurred "at various levels", and that Syrskyi and Fedorov would only work together with his mediation.

Thanks. I found this Telegraph article too

Rules:

  1. No sympathy with the enemy or its collaborators. Russian and North Korean soldiers are fascists committing a genocide. Remember that.

  2. Objective and factual reporting from the battlefield, parliaments, etc. is encouraged, even if it's about bad news for Ukraine.

  3. Insulting Putin and his cronies (Orban, Trump, Musk,...) is absolutely fine but don't use homophobic or similar language against them. Members of the queer community don't deserve to be compared to that scum. Also: Putin disciminates against gay people. If you do as well, you're part of the problem.

  4. Don't insult or use overly harsh language against other commentators.

  5. Don't submit direct links to Twitter/X and Truth Social posts. You may: Post a screenshot + quote, do a full quote and name the author, direct link to a proxy service like xcancel.com, deep link an image embedded in a tweet because Lemmy will cache a copy.

  6. Don't just complain about paywalls. If you encounter one, be a sport and link to an archived version instead. Use Firefox + uBlock Origin with the annoyances filters enabled and https://filterlists.com/lists/bypass-paywalls-clean-filter to avoid encountering many in the first place.
