The idea of copyright in general may not be bad.

However, its current implementation is very much horrendous.

The current implementation is not really "horrendous". It works well enough that its a net positive. Even with its flaws (because no law is perfect), I think we are better off with these Copyright laws around the world than without it. I never found anyone giving an example what could be done better; people just say its bad. In example, what specifically is so horrendous about the current "implementation" of Copyright? And how would it be better?

IMO you can seriously fix all copyright and patent law by halving their current duration. In the USA that means copyrights are author's life + 35 years and works for hire should be something like 50 years. Patents similarly go from 20->10 years.
