This community was created for Fracture, an application for creating fractured views of other applications on Linux.

The purpose of the community is for sharing shaders, demonstrating usage, or even just requesting help with it.

It's open source, and the source is available here. The recommended way to install it is through Flathub.

It's not perfect. It's an early version and it needs work

It doesn't perform well yet

• With KDE, the thread for Pipewire and the thread for WebGpu will both output 60 FPS when using Fifo.

• With Gnome, it's worse. Gnome's recorder is only capturing frames when there is damage detected. For a surface with high damage to the surface, it can result in near 60 FPS recordings.

The issue is that most surfaces are not high damage surfaces, and a normal video using Fifo will damage at a lower rate that results in a low amount of buffers for Pipewire. As an example, it's not uncommon to see the Pipewire thread reporting less than 40 FPS from Gnome. This results in very choppy and slow looking outputs, it's not something desriable to use seriously for any sort of video production or streaming. (when there are other options available like using KDE) I still am using Gnome all the time personally, so it's a priority for me to improve.

I wrote it when I switched to Linux last year. I was procrastinating on releasing or even writing for a while. I don't know if others will find it useful, in fact, I mostly ended up using mpv instead.

I don't even know how well it is supported either. It should maybe work anywhere screencasting for xdg-desktop-portals is available, but...

and I wish I could tell you that I'm going to repair all the issues right away, but I want to take a break from writing this project. I'm slightly unpredictable though, I might change my mind.
