So many comments here sound like this, geez. Same people saying "we can be friends, can't we, even if our politics differ?" Morality and respecting humans isn't politics. And no. We can't.

Also it’s a damn VPN. Pick another one. It’s not even like they can use the excuse that it’s the best in the field (still not an excuse but loads better than, I just “like” it)
A very small percentage of vpns can be classed as decent, especially if you are in the southern hemisphere. I requested my refund from mullvad today, my replacement option is?
AirVPN and IVPN are both fine. I don’t know why your hemisphere should matter aside from straight up being blocked so kind of hard for me to recommend without knowing that.
The vast majority of vpn servers are in the northern hemisphere, a very, very long way away from Australia
Servers in Australia only make a certain amount of sense due to our fascist governments internet restrictions ie: connecting to an Australian server and using social media = having to supply ID to that social media platform. While this does not apply to all social media platforms, it is expected to in time. (the restrictions only came in last year). I'm expecting them to try to ban vpns in future as well, but thankfully they are morons.
airvpn is possibly feasible via their cli suite, but their gui that looks like it comes from 1997 and lacks split tunnelling, its also AUR, not official repos. I would definitely prefer gui, and not having to f around with a manual install etc. Been there, done that in the past.
ivpn currently failing to install on my system (not something that has occurred previously), and they do have a lack of servers. They have 1 server listed in Malaysia, and 1 in South Africa. 99% of their servers are in the northern hemisphere.
Given a base speed of approx 100Mbps here, it doesn't take much of a drop these days to be noticeable. Previous connections via proton, and then via mullvad showed northern hemisphere servers, and even some southern hemisphere servers to be a bad idea.
New Zealand is the sweet spot, for now.
I have spent the day looking into alternate vpns again, and airvpn and ivpn are the only 2 that even come to close to ticking the boxes, just as they did when I was looking last year.
Mullvad was the only one that ticked all of the boxes Decent amount of servers, and locations. Good linux gui (now on official repos) Good android gui (f-droid) Split tunnelling on linux and android Browser extensions (speed hit, but really handy) No logs
Which one? The Pro-Israel vpn at PIA? The one thats Pro-Trump at ProtonVPN? NordVPN?
AirVPN and IVPN are both great options.

AirVPN seems to be the go-to for torrenting, and RiseUp exists but I don't know how good it is
Air VPN was good for torrenting for years but most of the servers in torrent friendly countries are pretty full and slow these days.
I had them from 2020 until last fall. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of good options if you want port forwarding.
For torrents specifically, I would suggest getting some friends together to rent a seedbox or VPS on a torrent friendly provider. You may have total monthly bandwidth limits, but you have much better speed because p2p works so much better with a publically routable IP and open ports anyway.
i mean, while there's no ethical consumption under capitalism, why does it seem like so many people are trying their hardest to rack up the most unethical consumption? Like there's a counter somewhere or something idk.

You're absoluetly right, and thank you, I'll be using that link in my personal life.
As for VPN alternatives, as we know, not many have faced a raid by authorities like Mullvad, which does speak to the fact that they weren't collecting user data. However, that may be only a matter of time in our increasingly surveiled world -
ProtonVPN - has its own controversies (CEO may be right-wing in supporting Republicans in the US) but has stood up to legal action previously
