May 21st, 2026: Micromatic May

  • Brush: Semogue - 620 24mm Boar
  • Razor: EldrormR Industries MM24
  • Blade: Accuforge GEM Microcoat (11)
  • Lather: Stirling - Boat Drinks - Soap
  • Post Shave: Declaration Grooming - Hindsight - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: GLHF Workshop - Polyphemus - EdT

Great shave with the MM24 and Boat Drinks this morning. I'm glad to have found a puck of this soap. Hopefully I can find the splash or EdT at some point as well.

It took me a long time to warm up to Boat Drinks. I'm in a major sailing town, and the fragrance does not remind me of a "boat drink". After I stopped being pedantic about it, though, I find that I quite like this one. I need to find some of the splash.

Ha! In my experience on sailboats, a boat drink is usually a beer.

It's definitely a nice scent, if a little sweet. Certainly has a nice summer vibe to it.

Yes, a nice cold beer after a day on the water is what most of us here want. If it's a mixed drink, we generally have a tall, icy, gin & tonic, or rum & tonic. On the rare occasion where a harbor is calm, someone will make something fancy, but normally, sailboats are rocking due to wave motion, so a beer is an easy choice.

Do you sail often? I used to race as a teenager, and my father in law still does regularly.

It’s not something I make time for these days, but there’s definitely a spot in my heart for a long day on a sailboat.

No. I don't sail anymore, but I grew up around wooden boats; working on and sailing on boats my father owned. As an adult, I owned a boat of some sort or other until I was in my 50s. By that time, I had moved from larger sailboats through dinghys to windsurfers to do less maintenance and more sailing. I haven't had the bug to get back into it other than to paddle about in kayaks occasionally.
