"Just asking questions" had become the go-to response for people who are being utter dicks about something until they're proven wrong or someone stands up to em.
It's like the mild equivalent of someone saying "it's just a prank bro"
Asking questions and "just asking questions" are two different things in this context. "Why are Jews overrepresented in the media and banking industries?" is a perfectly valid and normal question. If you're asking it with the intent to understand the sociopolitical context behind this fact, that's good. If you're asking it to try and push a narrative about Jews being in control of the world, that's bad.
