Capitalist dictatorship*, with the illusion of democracy. No different to the USSR or CCP and the illusion of workers owning the means of production.

*you can vote for whoever you want, but when "donations" from wealthy individuals and corporations have already pre-filtered and pre-positioned the majority of politicians, wealth has seized the means of democracy and created what is functionally equivalent to capitalist dictatorship, all but guaranteeing the political class represent their donors more than the entire working class.

Ranked choice voting I believe is a big step to getting away from it. Just that most people don't seem to realize it exists.

The people with the power to change the voting system have little incentive to do so. It's quite the catch 22.

Others have been sold the lie that it is flawed and inferior.

I've spoken briefly with some semi-progressive family about it and they immediately dismissed it as able to be "gamed" and therefore a worse system. I didn't get time to really dig into it with them. I was just confused and shocked.
