It's a shame, but I really do feel it was inevitable for people to buckle. Moderators are heavily invested in their communities for right and wrong reasons... and the users are just following muscle memory. They've been to that website daily and for most the API changes just don't have any impact on them at all. Well at least that they are aware of at this current point in time.
