I agree, with the caveat that it's very nice to be able to pay with my phone/ watch if/when forget my wallet, rather than having to go back home to get it.

Yet, it's only a rather small software problem compared to a HUGE banking problem, because finally the banks decide which security mechanism they accept in their apps. Without legal force, they won't engage in additional efforts.
So I would say: nice try.
