lemmy.ml is the tankie instance.

It's one sided by design, because tankies only know of one way to deal with anyone who disagrees with them.

Tankie? Is this a new racial slur I'm not aware of?

Authoritarian "leftists" who really like soviet Russia, North Korea, China, or even modern Russia. Often will unconditionally support any country that fights against the US, on the theory that the US is so evil that anyone who's against them must be good. They'll get incredibly offended if you say that those countries are in any way not 100% perfect.

It's campist bullshit.

It was their self-descriptor until they learned other leftists didn’t like them much (because they’re authoritarian and supportive of fascist dictators such as Putin), and naming them using their self designated term meant they were excluded from other leftists. So they started taking offense.

Even Ameribots know "commie" is very "Red Scare" and outdated so they're using that word now. It just means "commie" for this new generation.

[-] greenbit@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

Nah they harass commies, so basically tankie means anti-commie

Mmm, maybe originally or theoretically, but not in practice. At least not online, or not in Lemmy. Usually what I've seen is the word used by someone who can't accept the realities of Western supremacy and American imperialism and feels your "criticism" and moral judgement of it is too harsh.

[-] greenbit@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

Dunno. I see the type who tries to push another type of supremacy and imperialism as some kind of an alternative, don't care what shorthand term they have
