"Yes, we're irradiated now, but gas is under $3/gal."

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 38 points 2 weeks ago

Well it would be Dubai and the Saudis that would be irradiated. They should be fine with it right?

[-] Ariselas@piefed.ca 31 points 2 weeks ago

the gas would likely be irradiated too. I heard of an early proposal to detonate nukes deep underground in the tar sands to bring the oil to the top, theoretically it would work but radioactive oil.

[-] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 28 points 2 weeks ago

Not irradiated! It's been treated with Shell Atomic Boost!

Just look for the glowing pump.

[-] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

This is the talent McDonald's marketing needs.

[-] errer@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

You mean my cars get free nuke juice? Why aren’t we doing this again?

[-] autriyo@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

The Americans actually tried that with some gas reserves, and as expected nuclear fracking increased yields, but radioactive gas.

So they're the only country who has nukes themselves for economic reasons...

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

the only country who has nuked themselves for economic reasons

Unless you count sealing gas field blowouts, which was apparently done five times and one time for methane blowout, and lots of other test explosions like geological exploration.

[-] autriyo@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Are those economic reasons? Or disaster management?

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

39 explosions for geological exploration (trying to find new natural gas deposits by studying seismic waves produced by small nuclear explosions)

25 explosions to intensify oil and gas debits

22 explosions to create underground storage for natural gas

Does this sound like disaster management?

[-] autriyo@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Sorry I should've read the second link too, my bad...

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

fuck them saudis and their sportswashing

[-] axh@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

That would guarantee a bright future for Dubai

[-] SarahValentine 11 points 2 weeks ago

The ~~geiger counter~~ Dow will be over 50,000!

[-] PhoenixDog@piefed.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

Well, not Americans, but brown people halfway across the world would be. But they're not people to Americans so who cares.

[-] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago

How bad would the radiation actually be?

[-] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 14 points 2 weeks ago

How bad can it possibly be? It's only being held apart by a screwdriver
