When your kid begs for a pet and promises to do all the work caring for it, it's time to seriously consider it. Don't make the mistake of believing they will actually do all the work or insisting they do it all, because it's unfair to the animal. But if they can do some, it's good for their growth. And having each other for play and companionship makes them both just a little easier for you to take care of.

Oh absolutely! We had a conversation just this week about maybe getting snails. I've tasked him with coming up with a plan on how they need to be cared for, what food they eat, the habitat they need, etc. and if he can come up with a convincing plan and be responsible (with mom's help lol), then we will consider it.

I had snails when I was a kid and we made the mistake of getting a species that was non-native to our area, so when we got bored of them it was a whole Thing to get rid of them. So from a former child snail owner, try to get some you can dump in the woods when they're tired of them.

Rules…

  1. Women only… trans women are women, and transphobic or gender critical talk isn’t allowed. Anyone under the trans umbrella (e.g. non-binary, bigender, agender) is free to decide whether a women's community is a good fit for them.
  2. Don’t be a dick. No personal attacks, no aggression, play nice.
  3. Don’t hate on groups, hatefilled talk about groups is not allowed. Ever.
  4. No governmental politics, so no talk of Trump actions etc. We recommend Feminism@beehaw.org for that, but here is an escape from it.
  5. New accounts or users with few comments may have their posts removed to prevent spam and bad-faith participation.
