A new report by Bloomberg covers Sony's recent decision to shut down Bluepoint Games. In the report, it's stated that Bluepoint actually pitched a Bloodborne remake, and while Sony was apparently on board with the project, "FromSoftware didn't want it to happen." The same Bloomberg report points to Kinda Funny's interview with Shuhei Yoshida, where the former PlayStation exec theorized that Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki may be interested in doing a remake of the game himself, but is too busy with other proejcts and doesn't want anyone else to touch it.
The Bloomberg report goes on to name other projects that Bluepoint attempted to pitch to Sony after its live-service God of War project was canceled. With the Bloodborne remake pitch rejected, Bluepoint attempted to pitch a PS5 version of Shadow of the Colossus and a Ghost of Tsushima spin-off, both to no avail. Eventually, Bluepoint Games was shut down.
If Miyazaki actually does want to do a Bloodborne remake himself, though, perhaps there is still hope that the game will make a comeback at some point down the line. Miyazaki is currently busy with The Duskbloods, but we have no idea what project he will tackle next. It's possible that Miyazaki will do a Bloodborne remake next, or maybe he will work on a completely original IP. Whatever the case may be, it will be interesting to see what's next from FromSoftware.
So the theories surrounding FS being against other companies touching their IP is confirmed now. No surprises here, and it makes sense that Bluepoint would pitch this. Makes me think that Miyazaki does really care about the franchise and doesn't want outsiders involved. Interesting that Demon's Souls does not get that same treatment considering it's the very first game that started the journey for them, but I guess ultimately it does not nearly hold a candle to Bloodborne's success and impact on the genre as a whole.
I remember a fair share of fans complaining about the Demon's Souls Remake. Apparently, while looking beautiful it got a ton of environmental details wrong and messed up a lot of the hidden lore along the way.
Now, this either confirms that FS too wasn't happy about that or they simply cared less about Demon's Souls to begin with - like you suggested. Regardless of the truth, while it does suck for Bluepoint, I too would prefer FS doing it themselves.
They took too many liberties with Demons Souls. Bluepoint failed to accurately represent the original art style and for some reason it is impossible to delete a single save file without deleting every single save file.
It’s like they did 90% of the work and then decided to put their own spin on things. Nobody wants their spin.
