Ahead of local elections that serve as a bellwether for next year’s presidential campaign, the National Rally says it is the victim of an increasingly radical left wing.

France’s far right is framing the death of an activist associated with far-right groups as a moment akin to the murder of Charlie Kirk in the United States.

The National Rally has in recent days started pointing to the killing of 23-year-old Quentin Deranque in Lyon as proof the poll-topping populist party is the victim of an increasingly radical political left, much as the MAGA movement in the United States did following Kirk’s assassination last year.

With key municipal elections next month serving as a bellwether of the National Rally’s electability heading into the 2027 presidential race, the incident has deepened the fissures in France’s polarized politics and fueled fears of further violence.

So Politico, you are going to completely glanced of the fact that a fascist gang started the fight that resulted in this death? Par for the course.

The events leading up to the fight that cost Deranque his life remain unclear

No, Politico, the video evidence is pretty clear.

I don't see how this could even be in question. The sequence of events in the video is absolutely plain as day. Nazis picked a fight and got their heads kicked in for it, case fucking closed.

He's never gonna be their Charlie Kirk, as if that would even be something to aspire to.

Thanks for the short summary. So pretty much exactly what I imagined happened after hearing a far right person got "attacked by the left and killed". But it's always interesting to then see which media you can trust and who tries to push an agenda.

Can you share a link to the video, or an article that explains what happened?

[-] kescusay@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I won't link directly to the video, because it does show an extremely violent brawl (and a man's final conscious moments; to be clear, I'm not celebrating his death and never would). But the Wikipedia article on it links to news sites and analysis, and several of those have the video.

It's not celebration to observe that, if you attack other people, it might not turn out the way you expect it will, and any adverse consequences resulting from someone defending themselves are the responsibility of the aggressor.

There is a 100% correlation between upcoming french elections and a coordinated media campaign against LFI. It’s always some baseless diffuse bs, that disappeared from the news, the moment the elections are over. I really hope the french electorate doesn’t eat that shit this time.

Do we have a ink to this video?

Especially as it's probably newsworthy that they weren't murdered by an even more far right person because they weren't far right enough.
