well, not doing it hasn't led to results, let's try this for a while and see what happens.

They don't see your refusal to stoop to their level as some kind of enlightened position - they see it as a weaker person kowtowing to their strength. The only reason these horrible people were under control for so long was because they believed progressive voices were unstoppably stronger and willing to use that strength.
