What gives them the authority to collect taxes in Canada? Only government's can do that.
Tribes are not nation-states like Canada is.
Interesting take, but in law Indigenous groups are effectively sovereign nations within Canada. They also have the authority to collect taxes within tribal lands.
"Tribes" are nations, governments and have full authority to collect taxes.
