I had some fermentation flies take up residence in my compost bucket and kitchen, so I made a trap for them which has worked very well. I have a jar of drowned flies and haven't seen any flying around the kitchen today. The trap is a funnel on top of a glass jar, and the bait is vinegar, sugar and yeast mixed with water.

I think you’ve just solved the mystery of what flies are in my house! Always thought they were thrips, although they didn’t exactly match. I’ve found a glass with vinegar and a few drops of dishwashing liquid to work pretty well as a trap, too
