If you aren't in a union, then please consider joining the IWW to unionize your workplace (bonus: you'll get higher wages, better benefits, and more time off if you succeed!) to strengthen a general strike if we finally manage to enact one.

And for our international friends, you should join one as well, as fascism is gaining momentum globally.

I think the purpose was to allow time for other unions to renew their contracts to end on that date, thus allowing everyone to 'legally' commit to a general strike by having everyone's contract end at the same time, and not accept any new contracts until our demands are met.

I don't think it would lose momentum being that far out, but unfortunately it was planned before Trump won the election, and thus assumed there was more time to prepare than we likely have. I think we will need to initiate a wildcat general strike sooner than 2028, personally.
