see, wasn't that hard to come clean

[-] Aquaphobi@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

Yes coming clean about not being a fascist is very easy. Because I am not one.

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 weeks ago

just like the fascists you keep defending in this thread

[-] Aquaphobi@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

I’ve not defended any fascists in this thread

I'm not interested in getting into a debate about whether Ukraine is fascist state (my official stance is "it's complicated"), but you should probably divide it cleanly into the period under a US-appointed neo-Nazi president and under a politically impotent Jewish president.

There isn't really a clean division, because while it's true that Zelensky ran on a platform of making peace in Donbas he was also bankrolled by Kolomoisky, who's the same guy that's tight with Azov https://www.thedailybeast.com/billionaire-ukrainian-oligarch-ihor-kolomoisky-under-investigation-by-fbi

In general, banderites and other far right groups continue to have a huge amount of political power there. Lots of top officials, like Zaluzhny, are very open about it too.

It's still an important distinction. A state run completely by Banderites vs a state where Banderites have considerable influence. In the former case the instigator is the entire state apparatus, in the latter case it's dark forces within the state that need to be fought against.

Anything from before the election of Zelensky can easily be brushed aside, and rightly so, as a criticism of the past state of Ukraine.

The current state of Ukraine isn't fundamentally different. If anything, under Zelensky, opposition parties and independent media have been banned, and elections have been cancelled. Ukraine today is basically a dictatorship that's aligned with the fascist forces.
